KitweOnLine Writing Guidelines

Guide

Thank you for your interest in writing for KitweOnLine. We are excited to welcome you on board as a writer. We need to balance the need for you to have the freedom to write and our responsibility to our readers and to the writing community. Here are our writing guidelines.

Writing Guidelines

  1. Once the article is accepted and published, KitweOnLine.com retains the exclusive publishing right and copyright to the article. That means the same content cannot be re-published by the author elsewhere on the web.
  2. Ensure that your article is unique and not copied. Plagiarism is a serious offence and will not be tolerated. Every effort will be made to check the originality of submitted content.
  3. It is also important that your article is not published elsewhere in any shape or form. Every submission is checked by our editor to ensure it is original content.
  4. Titles – Aim for a title that captures the keywords people will use in searching for such content on the internet. A good title will be short, succinct, and keyword rich.
  5. Proofreading and Spelling – While writing in a second language does pose a challenge, writers must proofread their work. Excessive errors may result in your work being rejected.
  6. You have a second or less to grab the attention of the internet surfer. Get to the point. Avoid beating around the bush.
  7. Be professional in your approach. Avoid vulgar language, inciting racial hatred, extremism, sexism, or other contentious -isms. KitweOnLine will be the final arbiter on the suitability of content to publish.
  8. Writing tips
    • Have a clear structure to your article with an introduction, body and conclusion
    • Avoid long sentences slung together with commas. Start each idea or thought in a separate sentence or paragraph.
    • Reserve the use of the words "I" and "We" to editorials and first hand accounts
    • Use one tense consistently in your article. Do not keep jumping e.g. from present to past tense.
    • Remember that internet surfers will use specific search terms to find your article. Include some keywords in your article.
  9. When choosing a category for your article, choose only the one that is the most relevant to your article, but not general top category. For example, if your article is related to “Kitwe Restaurants,” choose “Restaurants” category, but NOT “Kitwe” category.

Formatting Guidelines

  1. Properly capitalize your title. For example; if you were submitting the title “The Joys Of Living In Kitwe” rather than "The joys of Living in Kitwe."
  2. Use regular fonts and styles. Avoid fancy fonts.
  3. Double space each new paragraph or heading.
  4. Do not indent a new paragraph.
  5. Avoid self-advertising links. Links will be checked by the editor to determine if they are relevant and in context.

Welcome. We look forward to working with you.
