HAPPY TO BE SAD
Bwalya Kazungo
Am happy
Happy to be sad
I don’t hate happiness
I just feel like happy with my sadness.
Sadness being alone
Ignoring my friends and that come with them
Am happy I won’t be judged
For I am sure about my future
I don’t regret anything
Am gifted, handsome and
Focused in my sadness.
Yes, I am worthy without you.
FOR MARGARET
Bwalya Kazungo
You lit a smile into the air
It faded on some faces
I don’t know whose
For so sweet it was I could not notice the fading,
You echoed a song into the air
It reaches some ears
I don’t know whose
For many ears not so keen
Could not follow the destination unknown.
You threw a kiss into the air
It fell somewhere I don’t know
For so swift it flew
And none had vigour to follow its flight.
That was then…
But now like a blossoming flower
And more like a dream
Many have found the smile.
It still glows
We even have found the song
And the tunes is the same
The kiss,
The kiss many are looking around
And you are not there to give direction.
We miss you
We miss you greatly.
TROUBLED SPIRIT OF AN AFRICAN CHILD
Boyd Kaimbi Chibale
Let no blame fall on me
Allow that flame to let me be
Let me play that game
Let me be the child you want me to be.
I am a troubled spirit
Living a life like a script
Living a life like the chemistry of poetry
I am a troubled African spirit.
Let me be the child you want me to be
A child with fame, with no shame
Standing firm
Let me be a child.
Let no blame fall on me
Let me be the child you want me to be
But let no sting pierce my innocent flesh
Let me be a child, young and fresh.
Let no blame fall on me
Allow that flame to let me be
Let me play that game
Let me be the child you want me to be
Give me a place in your heart
Quench that heat.
DO YOU HAVE ONE?
Barney Kanjela
Do you have one?
One to cuddle you to sleep!
You are lonely, aren’t you?
For those who don’t have?
They have a void in them
I don’t have and I am sometimes lonely.
She used to provide me with unsolicited happiness
Her breasts gave me joy and my heart leaped to see one
She knew when I wanted it.
Sometimes I just lay on it for warmth.
She is no more
My spirit is now unintended comedy
A tragedy of melodrama and pain
It was a coup from over yonder.
Many have vainly tried to replace her
They are not her
Their kisses are not what she gave
She is gone
No one can replace a mother
For those with mothers, treasure them.
