I am very happy to have this dictionary. I would like a Bemba-English version, though.

Wonderful dictionary. Comes in handy very often. Needs more words though because Bemba is very dynamic and continuously changing. The dictionary could reflect that.

Dr John, I am interested in learning Luvale. There is very little published material. I have a Grammar and Luvale/ English dictionary, both written a while ago by A E Horton. I would like an English/Luvale dictionary. Do you know where I could buy one? Do you know of any Luvale sources.

    Thank you,
    Bob Ames

      Hi Bob,
It is true, there does not seem to be a lot of information on the Internet on Luvale.
If we come across any information, we will get in touch. In the meantime, we hope any reader who knows any better will leave a comment here.

      Ngachili Bob,

My best friend here in Holland comes from a Luvale family in Zambia.
Last summer I went with here to Zambia to meet her family and I
also got a Luvale name ‘Chisola’ which means ‘welcome’. I would really
like to learn more Luvale words from a dictionary but they are no longer
available through the internet. Since you’ve mentioned that you do have a
copy, is there a possibility for me to receive a photocopy of the Luvale-
English dictionary? By the way, I also saw a Luvale phrase book written
by White on the internet but also just available in libraries.

      Thank you,

      Diewerke / Chisola

        Hi Chisola,
        Thanks for your inquiry.
Unfortunately I do not have a copy of the English-Luvale dictionary.
Hopefully one of our readers will be able to provide us with more information about how one could obtain a copy.

      Ba Chanshi,
The English-Bemba Dictionary is currently only available as an eBook on Smashwords: https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/158704?ref=drjs

It is not yet in print. I am currently working on the second edition. Those who have bought the first edition will be able to download the second edition free of charge. I hope to have a print copy of the second edition.

I live in DRC/Lubumbashi, since 2010 I am still working on luvale-english/English-Luvale Dictionary. I am doing manuscript work using the existing “Dictionary of Luvale” which I bought last time in zambia. To tell you the truth I like this language. After finishing this hard work, Is it wise of me to take the manuscript to the Luvale Department in zambia? Your advice is urgently needed. May Jehovah God bless you and the entire community of luvale people!

Hello Kadazi, Congratulations on your achievement. Working on a dictionary is a hard task but you have taken it on.
I would suggest that you do not restrict your self to one way of marketing your dictionary. You can approach traditional publishers and also look at self publishing.
You can also approach the Ministry of Education to explore the possibility of having it adopted in schools.
