Bemba Lesson 18 – Around the House

For clarity, we have left a gap between the pronoun and the verb. In practice, this is written without a gap, e.g. “Nde ipika” should be written as “Ndeipika,”

Here is a list of the verbs that have been covered in this lesson:

Cleaning

I am cleaning = Nde wamya

You are cleaning = Ule wamya(sing.), Mule wamya (pl.)

S/he is cleaning = Ale ipika (sing.), Bale wamya(pl.)

We are cleaning  = Tule wamya

They are cleaning = Bale wamya

Cooking

I am cooking = Nde ipika

You are cooking = Ule ipika (sing.), Muleipika (pl.)

S/he is cooking = Ale ipika (sing.), Baleipika (pl.)

We are cooking = Tule ipika

They are cooking = Bale ipika

 

Dancing

I am dancing = Nde shaana

You are dancing = Ule shaana (sing.), Muleshaana (pl.)

S/he is dancing = Ale shaana (sing.), Baleshaana (pl.)

We are dancing = Tule shaana

They are dancing = Bale shaana

 

Eating

I am eating = Ndee lya

You are eating = Ulee lya (sing.), Muleelya (pl.)

S/he is eating = Alee lya (sing.), Baleelya (pl.)

We are eating = Tulee lya

They are eating = Balee lya

 

Reading

I am reading  =  Nde belenga

You are reading  = Ule belenga (sing.), Mulebelenga (pl.)

S/he is reading = Ale belenga (sing.), Balebelenga (pl.)

We are reading = Tule belenga

They are reading = Bale belenga

Sleeping

I am sleeping  = Nde sendama

You are sleeping = Ule sendama (sing.), Mulesendama (pl.)

S/he is sleeping = Ale sendama (sing.), Balesendama (pl.)

We are sleeping = Tule sendama

They are sleeping = Bale sendama

Showering

I am showering = Nde samba

You are showering = Ule samba

S/he is showering = Ale samba

We are showering = Tule samba

They are showering = Bale samba

Walking

I am walking  = Nde enda

You are walking = Ule enda (sing.), Mule enda (pl.)

S/he is walking =  Ale enda (sing.), Bale enda (pl.)

We are walking = Tule enda

They are walking = Bale enda

Watch TV

I am watching TV = Nde tamba TV

You are watching TV = Ule tamba TV (sing.), Mule tamba TV (pl.)

S/he is watching TV =  Ale tamba TV (sing.), Bale tamba TV (pl.)

We are watching TV = Tule tamba TV

They are watching TV = Bale tamba TV

Working Out

NB. Traditionally, working out is a foreign concept. People go to the fields and work, or they work around the village. They don’t go jogging, doing press ups or sit ups. So working out is here interpreted as working in the traditional sense.

I am working out = Nde bômba

You are working out  = Ule bômba (sing.), Mule bômba (pl.)

S/he is working out  =  Ale bômba (sing.), Bale bômba (pl.)

We are working out  = Tule bômba

They are working out  = Bale bômba

    Hi.
    Thanks for all the great lessons.
    I live in Norway with my husband who is from Zambia and thanks to kitweonline I know impress him from time to time with my bemba skills.

    But could you please add this to the list? Example
    I am showering
    I am watching TV
    I am cleaning
    I am working out
