PARTS OF THE HUMAN BODY
The aim of this lesson is to list the names of body parts in Bemba.
Human anatomy is fun to learn. In this lesson you will learn the different words that describe various parts of the human body:
The Human Body = Umubili wa muntu
The following table gives the Bemba term in singular (Column 2) and plural terms (Column 3) for each English term in Column 1.
Notes on the names of fingers:
Ring Finger = Cikonka kantengesha (“The finger that follows the last one”)
1st Finger = Nkomfola musunga (“The finger that scoops porridge”)
Middle Finger = Munwe ukalamba (“The big finger”)

Lip = Mulomo (Milomo)
Missing Tooth = Muchene (Michene)
Mouth = Kanwa (Tunwa)
Nail = Lwala (Mala)
Neck = Mukoshi (Mikoshi)
Nose = Mona (Myona)
Shoulder = Kubeya (Mabeya)
Skull = Cipanga (Fipanga)
Smile = Censa
Spinal Column = Longololo lwa numa (Ba longololo banuma)
Thin = Onda
Thumb = Cikumo (Fikumo)
Toe = Cikondo (Fikondo)
Tongue = Lulimi (Ndimi)
Tooth = Lino (Meno)
Waist = Musana (Misana)
Wrist = Nkolokoso

Lovely! I was a good bemba speaker and reader, I speak and read well still but its more of the “mash up” when I speak. I feel bad that I actually put away a lot of useful vocabulary.
