Meet ELIZABETH KAMINSA
I work for Kitwe City Council as a Community Development Officer. I have been with the Council for four years. I love my work because I enjoy working with people.
I am pursuing a degree in Social Work and Development with University of Africa, which I am due to complete in 2015. It is a lot of hard work but I am determined to complete my studies.
My ambition is to set up my own NGO, a shelter for young girls. I see a lot of young girls loitering the streets of Kitwe and I would like to do something about that problem. There are a lot of things that can be done at a shelter for them, such as teaching them skills and how to manage their lives as girls. I have a lot of time to develop ideas about my NGO. Anyway, that is my ambition in life.
I am not married; still waiting for Mr Right. He will show up one day, I know, so I am not in a hurry. Even God in the Bible tells us “It is not good for man to be alone,” so there must be someone waiting for me. I have observed that generally, African women are not given the respect that is due to them within their communities. I find that very sad.
Kitwe can be boring sometimes. There are no developmental activities to keep one occupied. Most of the career women are too busy with their work to consider developmental issues that might interest younger women.
