Jazz Society of Kitwe

Lydia Mhango - kitweonlineKitwe has started a Jazz Society and I thought I should upload a few photos of the first one we had in January.  We shall be holding them once a month.  Membership is K50 000 per month.  Members that pay can bring their jazz music to play.

Members are also allowed to invite one guest per show.  The first jazz night was held at Kitwe Little Theatre, as will be the second one.  The idea is to rotate the venue depending on suitability.  The ladies prepare snacks and some of the money paid in for membership is used for members to have drinks, pay for transportation of the music equipment and other incidentals.

As we progress, we hope to be able to invite jazz singers/players as guests to entertain the members.  The Jazz Society is being co-ordinated by Barney Kanjela and Joe Kaara.  Joe Kaara gave a talk on "What is Jazz?"  He said the definition of jazz is a personal matter.

Membership is open to all jazz enthusiasts.  Our next meeting is on 17th February. I hope to give you more news then.
