The SOTAMBE Documentary Film & Arts Festival (SOTAMBE DFAF) is a non-governmental and non-profit making organization that is organized in the Copperbelt Province in collaboration with the Department of Development Studies at the Zambia Catholic University and the Kitwe Little Theatre.
This year’s festival is the third edition in the Copperbelt and it is happening in the period 20th – 24th September 2016 at the Kitwe Little Theatre.
The theme for this year’s festival is “Common Endeavours” under which particular attention will be given to social exclusion, good governance, environmental issues, gender equality and minerals extraction.
SOTAMBE is an educational festival whose main objective is to contribute to the social change within the communities by increasing the knowledge and awareness through documentary movies and promotion of arts in Zambia. Additional programme of the festival consists of public lectures, panel discussions, film making workshop and an art exhibition. Other entertaining activities include filmmaking competition, dancing competition and poetry competition. A detailed programme is under preparation.
Last year the festival was attended by about 350 people many of whom were students from various colleges and universities. Five (5) documentaries were screened and one (1) drama play was staged.
