Kumasamba Lodge
Kitwe is acquiring an interesting number of places of interest on its outskirts. Clustered together on the Kitwe-Ndola Dual Carriageway are Kumasamba Lodge, Zemics Park Lodge, and Spur Farm House.
Kumasamba Lodge has been there for some time and provides very interesting natural sights.
Location
15 Kilometers south of Kitwe, Kumasamba Lodge is located on the South bank of the Kafue River, downstream from the Kafue Bridge, as the river meanders its way down to the Zambezi River.
Access
The dust road leading up to the lodge comes off the Kitwe-Ndola Dual Carriageway 11 kilometers south of the city. After it runs past Cedric’s Farm, the trail becomes a bit of a challenge for very low cars.
Those who persist are soon rewarded with a scenic view on the south bank of the Kafue River. The road approaches the lodge over a bridge between two lakes and leads into a small car park at the foot of a hill.
Staff
The typical Zambian staff are welcoming and very friendly and helpful.
Accommodation
Cottages are clustered on higher ground on the side of a hill between the lakes and the Kafue river.
Facilities
Adequate space is provided for the car park.
A childrens’ play ground is available in an enclosed area.
You can sit and enjoy your drinks and meal in the lounge or in one of several picnic spots on the bank of the Kafue river.
Wild Life
The area harbours a wide variety of insects, birds, animals and river dwellers such as fish, crocodiles and hippos. Make sure you don’t miss out on the experience provided by the vantage point of the lounges and accommodation areas. Binoculars will be handy if you want a closer look at the birds and insects.

When we last visited, there was no admission charge. You only paid in the bar or restaurant and for accommodation if you were staying over. It has been some time, though.
Hey, how much is entry fee in the park?
Is kumasamba lodge a place where I can sit and enjoy nature?
Hi Petronella. At the time we visited Kumasamba lodge we were impressed with the picturesque location along the Kafue River. You can view more photos posted by visitors on Google Maps.
