Learn NYANJA Language

The Nyanja / Chewa language is one of the most commonly spoken languages in Zambia. It is also used in Malawi and Mozambique.

We currently do not have lessons in Nyanja.

We are still looking for a volunteer Nyanja speaker to start these lessons.

In the mean time, you can use the following FREE RESOURCES.

1. ENGLISH-NYANJA DICTIONARY:

by Robert Laws (1894).

Use the Scroll Bar on the right hand side to scroll through the pages of the dictionary.

(Thanks to Caoimhin O Donnaile for bringing this one to our attention)

2. ENGLISH-NYANJA DICTIONARY:

by Father Jan Vermeullen’s of the Missionaries of Africa (White Fathers) – 1979 English-Nyanja Dictionary   in PDF Format (Downloadable).

Iv have learnt that nyanja and chichewa are slightly different languages. If you speak Chichewa in Zambia they will say you are from the village….like mufuna madzi? mafuna madzi?
