  • Mindolo Dam and Boating Club

      Hello Maureen,
We have added a Google Map showing the route from Ndola to Kitwe HERE.

Basically, follow the motor way from Ndola into Kitwe. After passing under the 16 foot railway bridge in Wusakile the road passes the slug dump on your left.
About a kilometer further you come to the first major road crossing. Here you turn left into Central Street.
Follow Central Street westwards all the way to the end. At the T-junction, turn right into Mindolo road.
Mindolo road slopes down towards Kitwe stream. After passing the stream take the first left into the road going to Kalulushi.
You cross the first railway crossing immediately and follow the road. As it turns northwards you will come across a small road branching off to the right. Follow this road all the way to the dam.
(PS. Feel free to ask anybody on the way. People will be very happy to show you the way)

      Hi
Your question is not easy to answer in a specific way because there is so much I don’t know about you.
As a general rule, the following are useful points to remember:
      1. Choose something that you already have a lot of interest in. The sort of thing that when you are doing, time seems to fly by.
      2. Look at your skills. What are you good at doing? Make a list of your skills. Against each one, put down a number of business activities that are possible.
      3. List your money requirements. How much do you need per month? That will help you match your expectations to what your business can be realistically expected to earn.
      4. Do you know anyone who is involved in the kind of business you are thinking about? If you don’t, find someone who is and introduce yourself and ask for advice. What you learn from them will save you a lot of time, effort and money.
      5. Expect to work for five years or more before you see a profit from your business.
      6. Learn how to make a business plan. A good business plan walks you through each step of your business journey, including problems you can expect and how you would react to them to ensure that your business succeeds.
      7. What sort of things irritate you and make you wonder why someone does not do something about it? Chances are that other people may be wishing for a solution to the problem. If you can package an affordable solution nicely and you are able to get enough people interested, you could be on a winning business idea. A problem is usually the source of a good business idea.
Always ask where you are not sure.
I wish you all the success.

      Hello Trish,
The last time we passed Chembe Bird Sanctuary, a week ago, the sign post was missing. We will investigate to see if all is well with the sanctuary before we post the directions.
(Basically it’s on the road that goes past Chibuluma Air Strip and goes past Kalulushi.
      We’ll update you soon).

        Hi Trish,
Good news. There’s a brand new sign that’s been erected at the entrance to the Chembe Bird Sanctuary. There’s also a fence around the perimeter. Last year the government repossessed the sanctuary with a view to giving it a new lease of life. They promised to fence it off and introduce even more wildlife. That is now happening.
        Instructions for driving there:
The Sanctuary is 29km (30min) from Kitwe.
From Nkana East, follow Central Street westwards into Nkana West, all the way to the end.
The road turns right (Mindolo Road). Follow it and cross the railway line. The road slopes down towards Kitwe Stream.
After crossing the stream, take the first left towards Kalulushi(Kalulushi Road, M18).
After the second railway crossing, the road curves right as it rises gently towards a built up area. There’s a cluster of road signs on your left. This point, 5.9km(6minutes) from the Mindolo Road junction, marks the turn off towards Chibuluma township and Air strip.
Take this left turn and follow the road past Chibuluma and the air strip turnoff (on your left).
After 23km (19 minutes)you will see a forest area on your right and a green sign that reads: “Welcome to the Chembe Bird Sanctuary. Copperbelt’s Nature’s Paradise.”
Up until this point, the tarred road is excellent. The nature trail at the entrance takes you into the Sanctuary.
